PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE SUBMITTING IMAGES FOR INCLUSION ON THE WEBSITE

I have automated production of the website "members' images" section and this requires that you follow some simple rules, (a) so that you make my life easier, and (b)so that the site complies with W3C XHTML standards.

1) Submitted images should be in JPG (JPEG) format.

2) Choose a good FileName for each image - not too long (30 chars max) but sufficient to describe the image. If you want to put the same title on more than one image, please suffix them with a numeral in brackets (e.g. moon_(1) moon_(2) etc).

  • Use lower case for ALL the FileNames (i.e. filename.jpg).
  • DON'T leave SPACES in the FileNames - use "shifted hyphens" instead (e.g. eclipse_of_ the _sun.jpg).

(The FileName will appear as the TITLE on the relevant web page - the "shifted hyphens" will be automatically stripped out and the ALL the letters converted to UPPER CASE.)

3) Change the "Creation/Modified" dates to agree with the "Picture Taken" date. The automated system orders the images chronologically based on these dates. The program "Exifer" (http://www.friedemann-schmidt.com/software/exifer/) will enable you to change the dates. Help on using exifer is available at http://bppdocs.camner.net/html/exifer_info.htm.

4) Submit a SIMPLE text file (.txt) with no formatting using 'notepad', or a similar text editor, for EACH image. The text file should have EXACTLY the same FileName as the image file. It should contain information for each image.

I suggest the following headings and in this order:

*Brief description to expand on the title.

*Date: 12 August 2006 format

Equipment: telescope/camera), including exposure details.

Processing details:

*Photographer:

Try to include the items in RED and starred (*) if possible, however, DON'T let lack of information put you off submitting an image. Please look at the existing gallery image descriptions to see what we're aiming for.

Let me know what you think. If you have any suggestions or questions, then please let me know.
